WHAT WE'RE ABOUT

We are a professional renovation company operating in the Indianapolis area. The Hammer Construction & Consulting is owned by the esteemed TV personality from HGTV’s Good Bones: Thadeus Starsiak.

Our focus is transforming older homes into stunning and habitable homes in many different neighborhoods across the city. We take pride in our versatility and adaptability. There is no project too big or too small for us to tackle. Whether it’s a minor repair or a comprehensive restoration, we approach each task with the same level of dedication, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Our commitment to excellence and our unwavering can-do attitude ensure we deliver results that exceed expectations, regardless of the project’s complexity.

OUR PROCESS

PHONE CONSULTATION

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • 20–45-minute FREE phone consultation
  • identification of projects
  • understanding the scope of the project & potential cost
  • sharing inspiration photos, potential timelines, & start dates

We are all about pre-planning and organizing. A phone call helps give shape and dimension to the project(s). This would be li ke the broad paint stokes in painting or setting the cornerstone — pun intended!

This process gives us a chance to ask critical questions about the project(s) you want completed and allows us to get to know each other as well. Client and General Contractor compatibility is extremely important to us. We want you to be happy and feel excited for your project(s) and to make sure we’re working for a reasonable, down-to-earth client. A phone consultation gives us a leg up on the work we might perform once we get to our next step: an in-person consultation.

IN-PERSON CONSULTATION

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • 45-90 minute meeting on site to review your project(s)
  • exploring the space together and solidifying ideas discussed during phone consultation — or sometimes scrapping them and starting over which happens!
  • measurements, photos, & videos of the existing space
  • review of the next step — estimate, deposit, vendors, & timeline

An in-person consultation happens after we’ve communicated on the phone about your project(s). A phone call is great, but an in-person meeting is for us to get as granular as possible about the scope of the project.

These conversations range from paint colors, trim profiles, cabinet material, hardwood or LVP, quartz or granite, finish colors, etc. The more details, the better! However, all these details can be a lot to work through. Sometimes we’ll email over PDFs of different catalogs or leave brochures for you to browse. Once Hammer Construction has completed the in-person consultation, we have a 90% complete vision of what you are wanting to achieve.

Once we have a vision, we’ll give you a precursory budget. If the budget seems reasonable at market value, the next step is working on an estimate. If discussing a bathroom or kitchen remodel, it will take up to two weeks to get your approximate estimate. If it’s a larger project, two to four weeks is typical but it varies according to project size.

PRE-CONSTRUCTION PHASE

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • estimate authorization & deposit
  • connection to vendors most will provide discounts due to our relationship and business with them!
  • finalization of  materials & design
  • Project Manager introduction
  • final pre-construction walkthrough to ensure all parties are on the same page
  • reviewal of start date & project timeline
  • manage expectations (ex: Is there a lockbox? What times can we work? What are your pet peeves? Do you prefer phone calls, emails, or texts? Where can we set the dumpster? You get the idea!)

If we’ve reached this phase, this means the ball is rolling! You’ve accepted our estimate and made your deposit.

Depending on the scope of the project(s), deposits are typically 50% for projects less than $40,000. We are very meticulous with everything during this phase. This phase is arguably the most important, and if we plan things correctly, the project should be a walk in the park!

During the pre-construction phase, we will pick materials (countertops, tile, flooring, etc.); finalize the design; talk timeline; and project management. As a client, you’re really going to want to know what to expect — we exceed all expectations in this category, hands down!

Before the project(s) begins, Thadeus and Austin will meet you on site for a final pre-construction meeting. During this time, we will review the estimate with you and all the details to ensure we’re on the same page!

CONSTRUCTION PHASE

WHAT TO EXPECT:

  • 3-5 visits every week from Thadeus or Austin to ensure work quality
  • ordering and ensuring all materials are on site before the project begins to avoid any delay — a favorite procedure of our clients!
  • snapshot of weekly goals respective to the overarching schedule
  • prepping of the work area at the beginning and end of each day
  • nightly communication from Thadeus and Austin about next day objectives
  • troubleshooting any issues

Our construction phase is where all the pre-planning pays off and the magic begins! Hammer Construction excels at time management and keeping you as happy as possible. We also excel at communication — which is important!

Every evening, you will receive a text from our group chat with Austin and Thadeus stating the step-by-step process during this phase. Between our in-house team, led by Jon and our professional subcontractors, you might end up being sad once we are gone — most clients are!
